CALL FOR PAPERS
Starting immediately submissions for oral presentations and for posters are called for, on new research and application aspects of semiochemicals.
Offers of papers are sought from all those undertaking research or other activities relevant to the IOBC WPRS - EPRS "Semio-chemicals without Borders" Conference. Efforts should be made to be specific and to avoid presenting overviews, summaries or material that is already widely known, if not specifically requested by session leaders. Authors have the option to offer papers for oral presentation or for presentation as a poster.
An abstract of all accepted oral and poster presentations will be published, in English, in the Conference Booklet (to be made available to all registered delegates).
HOW TO OFFER A PAPER
Offers have to be submitted through e-mail to IOBCferoconf09@julia-nki.hu
You can download the abstract template of the conference in .doc and .rtf here!
Provide a 250-word abstract;
Indicate if the offer is for an oral or a poster presentation;
Ensure that your offer is submitted by Tuesday 30 June 2009 at the very latest.
Abstract submission deadline extended July 15, 2009!
All offers received by 30 June 2009 will be considered by the Scientific Committee in collaboration with the Scientific Session Organizers, which reserves the right to change contributions from oral to poster, and to allocate offers to sessions as appropriate.
All paper submitters will be notified as to the outcome of the selection process by Monday 1 September 2009.
We will provide a computer to project presentations. Please provide your presentation as a PPT, on a CD or on a thumbdrive. Presentations will be collected during the breaks FOLLOWING each session, so we can be sure last minute changes are incorporated. Bring a backup PowerPoint file on a CD-R or on a portable USB memory. If using a CD-R as backup, be sure to check that your disk can be read by a computer loaded with Microsoft PowerPoint (Office XP version, which is compatible with Office 2000). Do not use a CD-RW instead of a CD-R, because some computers cannot read all files written to a CD-RW.
Name the file(s) with your last name, and use a numeral as a suffix if you are submitting more than one file: Williams-1.ppt, Williams-2.ppt, etc.
Speakers should arrive in the session room and provide their presentation no later than 15 minutes before their session start time.
During the breaks a computer will be available for speakers to review their PowerPoint presentations. Make sure to review your file, preferably the day before your presentation, to assure that the file is compatible with our software and hardware. To reduce the chance of format problems, use standard fonts such as Arial and New Times Roman.
Length of oral presentations
Conference speakers’ presentations are 10 minutes each with an extra 5 minutes allowed for questions. Keynote speakers have 25 minutes each, also with 5 additional minutes allowed for discussions. We do provide a timekeeper with signs to show you how much time you have left to speak. If you choose to overrun into the question time, it's your choice, but we WILL have to cut you off at the end of that time. The entire schedule is TIGHT-please plan accordingly!
Please be careful with your time and respectful of the session chairperson and your fellow speakers! Plan to leave a few minutes for questions within your allotted time!
The Poster Session will be held on the 5th floor, next to the conference room and coffee break area, in the hallway.
The poster presenter is responsible for printing his own poster and bringing it to the conference for display. Each poster board will be identified by a poster number. You will receive your poster number during check in. Conference organizers are not responsible for the loss of Posters.
Poster presenters are asked to remain close to their posters throughout the poster session.
Poster Set-up time: until 14:00 November 16,
Please note that all posters must be removed until 18:00 November 19
Poster Size
Each poster will have a 0.95 m wide x 2 m tall space on a freestanding bulletin board.

Tips for Poster Preparation
Posters should stimulate discussion, not give a long presentation.
Please remember that, as is often the case, less is more. Use a font size that is readily readable from a distance: include only the most important details concerning background, your hypothesis, methods, results, and conclusions. Try to utilize one or two figures to highlight results: figures are easier and quicker to follow than several pages of text or tables.
Keep text to a minimum, emphasize graphics, and make sure every item included in your poster is necessary.
Be consistent. Keep consistent margins. Keep line spacing consistent. Keep the color, style, and thickness of borders the same. Keep shading consistent. Pick no more than 2–3 fonts. Pick no more than 2–3 colors.
Make sure the text is complete, spellchecked and free from grammatical errors.
The most successful posters are those that are engaging, attractive, informative and easy to
understand.
